Overview

We are currently recruiting for an Associate Director – Mechanical to join a leading engineering consultancy based in Melbourne, VIC. This is a permanent opportunity supporting the delivery of hyperscale and mission critical projects across Australia and internationally.

You will play a key role in leading and growing the Mechanical and Mission Critical business, combining project delivery, client management, team leadership, and business development responsibilities. Working closely with senior leadership and key clients, you will be responsible for driving business growth, securing new opportunities, and ensuring the successful delivery of major Data Centre and Mission Critical projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of complex mechanical building services and Mission Critical projects from concept through to completion.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients across the Data Centre sector.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities to support the continued growth of the business.
  • Lead client meetings, networking activities, presentations, and proposal submissions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing technical and commercial guidance throughout project lifecycles.
  • Manage project teams, resources, budgets, and project performance.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight to ensure the quality and successful delivery of project outcomes.
  • Mentor and develop engineers across various levels of experience, fostering a high-performing team culture.
  • Support recruitment, succession planning, and team growth initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in line with commercial, contractual, and quality objectives.

Required Experience:

  • Significant experience delivering mechanical building services projects within a consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client acquisition, and winning new project work.
  • Strong network within the Data Centre, Mission Critical, Building Services, Property, or Infrastructure sectors.
  • Proven experience leading client relationships and managing key accounts.
  • Strong leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams and project delivery.
  • Commercially minded with a strong understanding of project financial performance and risk management.
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or eligibility to obtain Chartership).
  • Significant consulting engineering experience within Building Services, Mission Critical, or Data Centre environments.
