Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Automation Engineer to design, develop, commission, and support automated industrial equipment. This role offers end-to-end project ownership—from electrical design and PLC programming through on-site startup and customer support. The position is based in Abbotsford, WI, with relocation assistance available for qualified candidates.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical & Controls Design
- Design electrical schematics and electrical panel layouts
- Size electrical loads for disconnects, drives, servos, and related components
- Develop electrical Bills of Materials (BOMs) and electrical drawing lists
- Support R&D efforts related to electrical and machine safety systems, including barcode readers and OPC servers
- Create customer proposal and concept drawings
PLC, HMI & Motion Control
- Develop PLC programs primarily using Rockwell Studio 5000
- Develop HMI applications using Rockwell platforms
- Perform servo sizing calculations and motion system design support
- Execute servo commissioning and tuning
- Perform PLC commissioning and system validation
Commissioning & Field Support
- Commission control panels and automation hardware, including firmware updates
- Travel to customer sites for equipment installation and startup
- Support extended installation schedules (12-hour days, 7 days/week until completion)
- Provide customer service and technical support during and after installation
Additional Responsibilities
- Capture photos and video documentation when required
- Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong PLC programming experience, preferably Rockwell / Allen-Bradley platforms
- Experience designing electrical schematics and industrial control panels
- Knowledge of industrial automation systems, drives, servos, and motion control
- Willingness to travel for equipment installation and commissioning
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with HMI development and industrial networking
- Exposure to OPC servers and industrial data systems
- Background in machine safety standards and electrical compliance
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary range of $100K – $130K
