Role Description The Chief Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in the London Area, United Kingdom, responsible for overseeing the hotel’s engineering, maintenance, and building systems. This role leads the engineering team to ensure all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life safety systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with local regulations and Hilton standards. Day-to-day tasks include planning and supervising preventive and corrective maintenance, managing external contractors, monitoring energy usage, and supporting sustainability initiatives. The Chief Engineer collaborates closely with Operations, Housekeeping, and Front Office to support an excellent guest experience, minimize downtime, and respond promptly to maintenance requests. The role also involves managing budgets, maintaining accurate records, conducting regular property inspections, and mentoring team members to maintain high performance and safety awareness.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in building systems management, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life safety systems in a hotel or similar facility.
- Strong skills in preventive maintenance planning, asset management, and the use of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Experience leading engineering or maintenance teams, with proven ability to coach, develop, and motivate team members in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage budgets, control costs, and work with vendors and contractors to deliver high-quality, compliant services.
- Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations, with a track record of maintaining a safe workplace and supporting sustainability efforts.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional hotel teams and external partners.
- Relevant technical qualifications, such as an engineering or building services degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent professional certification; trade qualifications in electrical or mechanical fields are an advantage.
