Civil Engineer – Water & Wastewater
Location: Cairns & Far North Queensland
Employment Type: Full‑time, Permanent
Salary Range: $90,000 – $130,000 per annum (commensurate with experience)
Position Summary
The Civil Engineer – Water & Wastewater is responsible for supporting the planning, design coordination, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects across Far North Queensland. The role is delivery‑focused, working closely with project managers, site teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure works are completed safely, on time, and to specification.
This position suits an engineer with solid practical experience in water and wastewater infrastructure who enjoys a balance of office‑based engineering and on‑site project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Engineering Support
- Assist in the delivery of water supply, sewerage, and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pipelines, pump stations, treatment facilities, and drainage infrastructure.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Provide day‑to‑day engineering support to site teams, including resolving technical queries and constructability issues.
- Assist with planning and sequencing of works in line with programs and budgets.
Water & Wastewater Expertise
- Support delivery of potable water networks, sewer networks, rising mains, and associated civil works.
- Assist with installation and commissioning activities for water and wastewater assets.
- Ensure works comply with relevant Australian Standards, council specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Site & Contractor Coordination
- Liaise with supervisors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure efficient site operations.
- Monitor progress, productivity, and quality of works on site.
- Assist with procurement, material scheduling, and subcontractor coordination.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with WHS, environmental, and quality management systems.
- Assist with inspections, test plans, and project documentation.
- Identify risks and support implementation of appropriate controls.
Stakeholder & Client Interaction
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, consultants, and authorities.
- Support reporting requirements, progress updates, and completion documentation.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- 3-7 years' experience in civil construction, with exposure to water and/or wastewater projects.
- Practical knowledge of water and wastewater infrastructure construction.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Current driver's licence.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a project team.
Desirable
- Experience working on regional or remote civil projects.
- Familiarity with local government or state authority specifications.
- Experience with treatment plants, pump stations, or pressure pipelines.
- Exposure to contractor‑side project delivery.
