Role description
We are looking for a Civil Structures Lead to advance the bridge engineering practice across the province. The successful candidate will lead the design and delivery of complex bridge projects from inception to construction, collaborating with clients in the public and private sectors, and managing multidisciplinary teams through all project phases.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects, enhancing Arcadis Ontario’s bridge engineering practice through project delivery, business development and team mentoring.
- Provide technical direction and oversight on bridge projects, guiding them through concept, detailed design and construction stages.
- Serve as the client‑facing lead for the discipline on major projects, facilitating clear communication and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and internal teams.
- Prepare and review detailed engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, cost estimates and technical reports.
- Offer technical expertise during construction, reviewing contractor submissions and providing in‑office support as needed.
- Develop and execute comprehensive project plans, managing budgets, schedules and resources to ensure successful delivery and profitability.
- Lead business development activities: develop winning proposals, assemble project teams and contribute to technical inputs for bids and long‑term client engagement.
- Ensure design deliverables meet client requirements, regulatory standards and Arcadis quality benchmarks.
- Proactively identify and address engineering issues, applying problem‑solving skills to overcome challenges and drive project success.
Qualifications & Experience
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive bridge engineering experience (inspection, analysis, load‑rating, design, construction).
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams.
- Strong technical report writing, problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Preferred:
- 15+ years of bridge design experience.
- Experience as a project lead/manager with Ontario municipalities.
- RAQS qualification and familiarity with MTO requirements.
- Experience with other Canadian municipalities.
- Eligibility for an Ing. designation in Quebec.
- French language proficiency.
- Proficiency with MIDAS Civil, AutoCAD/Civil3D and Microsoft Office Suite.
Salary
The salary range for this position is $112,000 – $162,000. Base salary varies by location, skills, experience and qualification.
