Job Description

We are looking for a Components Engineer to join the Manufacturing Engineering team of a defense company.

The role includes identifying available alternatives for electronic components, handling obsolete components, and working closely with development and engineering teams to approve new components.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the availability and reliability of components throughout the product life cycle, while supporting and guiding contract manufacturers on component-related issues.
  • Identify high-quality and available alternatives for components in shortage, EOL or NRND status, including datasheet analysis, electrical/mechanical/thermal compatibility review, and technical validation.
  • Review component availability and market status, including inventory levels, lead times, life cycle status, alternative manufacturers, and shortage risk analysis.
  • Handle obsolete components by identifying at-risk components early, building replacement plans, maintaining operational continuity, and creating alternative AVLs.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to approve new components, prepare technical analyses, and lead ECO, AVL and qualification processes.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain technical information, PCN/PDN updates, regulatory documentation, and support testing activities.
  • Update the component library in PLM/ERP systems and maintain an accurate and continuous BOM.
  • Provide support for production questions and issues raised by contract manufacturers.

Requirements:

  • B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering – mandatory.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar role within the electronics field – mandatory.
  • Proven knowledge in component analysis and comparison, including electrical, mechanical and thermal aspects.
  • Experience working with datasheets, AVL, BOM and ECO processes.
  • Familiarity with availability and alternative component tools such as Octopart, SiliconExpert, IHS / BOM Intelligence.
  • Experience working closely with development, quality and NPI teams.
  • High-level technical English.

Advantages:

  • Familiarity with IPC, JEDEC, RoHS / REACH and MIL-STD standards.
  • Experience with reliability testing such as HALT / HASS, stress tests, QA / FA.
  • Knowledge of advanced component recovery processes, solderability upgrades such as Re-Plating, and BGA Re-Balling.
  • Experience with a wide range of components, including Passive, Active, PMIC, Connectors, RF and Sensors.
  • Experience working with EMS / CM and manufacturing environments.
