Composite Repair Technician
Location: Wichita, KS
Job Type: 3-Month Contract (Possible Extension)
Pay: $50.00/hour (Straight Time)
Per Diem: $100/day Lodging Per Diem ($700/week)
Position Overview
We are seeking experienced Composite Repair Technicians to perform fabrication, assembly, repair, and inspection of advanced composite aircraft structures. This role requires hands-on experience repairing carbon fiber and other composite materials in an aerospace environment. Boeing 787 composite repair experience is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural composite repairs on graphite, Kevlar, fiberglass, and aluminum assemblies.
- Fabricate, assemble, form, and inspect composite parts, tools, and assemblies.
- Perform taper sanding, scarf repairs, sweep fills, overlays, and bonded repairs.
- Complete wet layups using resins and pre-preg materials.
- Operate hot bonders, heat guns, monitors, and compaction bagging equipment.
- Sand and finish composite surfaces using pneumatic air tools and bonding equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, engineering drawings, and repair documents.
- Build and repair composite structures independently and within a team environment.
- Use precision measuring tools and shop mathematics to ensure quality standards are met.
- Assist in planning and executing repair procedures while maintaining company and customer specifications.
- Advise on proper equipment and material usage as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of aircraft composite repair experience
- Experience with:
- Taper sanding (30:1 scarf ratio)
- Potting holes
- Countersinking
- Composite drilling
- Sweep fills and overlays
- Wet layup
- Pre-preg materials and resins
- Hot bonders, heat guns, and monitoring equipment
- Compaction bagging techniques
- Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Experience using composite repair hand tools.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
- Boeing 787 Dreamliner composite repair experience.
- Structural Composite Repair Certification (TR009348).
- 5+ years of AOG (Aircraft on Ground) experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work on platforms up to 10 feet above ground.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to perform overhead work.
Required Testing
Candidates must successfully complete:
- Taper sanding test (flat panels and stringers)
- Plate test
- Sealer certification
- Hands-on skill demonstrations during initial training
- Composite Repair Certification testing after passing the plate test
Compensation
- $50.00/hour
- $100/day Lodging Per Diem ($700/week)
- 3-month contract with possible extension
