Controls Engineer – Critical PowerPosition Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Controls Engineer – Critical Power to support the design, development, and implementation of control systems for low- and medium-voltage switchgear applications across a variety of industrial and commercial environments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing reliable, safe, and high-performance control systems that meet applicable industry standards and project requirements. This role requires strong technical expertise in PLC programming, protection relays, electrical power systems, and controls engineering, along with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design control systems for low- and medium-voltage switchgear applications (480V to 38kV).
  • Develop one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
  • Specify, configure, and program PLCs and SCADA systems for power distribution and automation projects.
  • Configure, test, and commission protection relays, power meters, and automation systems.
  • Develop and maintain SCADA/HMI applications for monitoring and control functions.
  • Review project specifications and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and design requirements.
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose PLCs, SCADA systems, protection relays, communication networks, and power quality equipment.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including sequences of operation, testing procedures, and as-built drawings.
  • Provide training on system operation and maintenance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver technical support and field assistance for installed systems as required.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, manufacturing, and field service teams to ensure successful project execution.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and relevant technical experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in controls engineering, power systems, or switchgear design and implementation.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming, SCADA systems, and protective relay applications.
  • Experience supporting electrical distribution, automation, or switchgear projects.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety standards, industry regulations, and best practices.
  • Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, construction, utility, or data center environments is preferred.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency in the design and implementation of switchgear and power system control solutions.
  • Strong PLC programming and SCADA/HMI development experience.
  • Knowledge of industrial networking, communication protocols, and control system architecture.
  • Understanding of protection relays, electrical schematics, power distribution systems, and automation controls.
  • Ability to develop and interpret one-line diagrams, control schematics, and panel layouts.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
  • Ability to comply with applicable background screening, safety, and workplace policies.

Pay: $120,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year
