We are seeking a seasoned and detail-oriented Cost Engineer with 5 to 10 years of experience to join our project controls team. You will be responsible for developing detailed cost estimates, establishing budgets, tracking actual costs, and forecasting expenditures for complex electrical projects. The ideal candidate will have direct experience in electrical construction, strong analytical skills, and a proactive approach to managing project financial health.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation & Tendering: Perform detailed quantity take-offs, analyze drawings/specifications, and prepare comprehensive cost estimates for electrical tenders, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Budgeting & Setup: Create and manage comprehensive Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and establish project cost baselines based on approved tenders.
- Cost Control & Monitoring: Monitor actual project expenditures against approved budgets, identifying variances and trends immediately to prevent overruns.
- Change Management: Assess, document, and manage change orders and variations in project scope, analyzing their financial impact on the project.
- Forecasting & Reporting: Prepare accurate weekly/monthly financial reports, including cash flow projections, earned value reporting, and cost-to-complete forecasts.
- Subcontractor & Procurement Support: Review subcontractor and vendor quotes to ensure compliance with tender requirements, and validate invoices.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, procurement, and site teams to optimize costs and provide actionable insights for profitability.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Experience: 5-10 years of progressive experience in cost estimation, control, and management.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP), scheduling software (Primavera P6), and estimation software (e.g., CostX, ConEst).
- Analytical Skills: Excellent numerical skills with high attention to detail.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to work with project teams and external stakeholders.
