Job Summary
The Data Center Specialist Engineer provides specialist technical oversight for mission-critical data center systems, ensuring compliance with required Tier classifications, resilience objectives, and international data center standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Review data center designs at concept, detailed design, and construction documentation stages
- Provide specialist oversight of electrical, mechanical, ICT, fire and life safety, security, monitoring, and control systems
- Review power distribution, UPS systems, standby generators, cooling systems, BMS, EPMS, and DCIM integration
- Verify system capacity, equipment sizing, redundancy configurations, and sequences of operation
- Review Tier III and Tier IV designs for concurrent maintainability and fault tolerance
- Identify design gaps, operational risks, and single points of failure
- Ensure compliance with Uptime Institute Tier Standards, ANSI/TIA-942, ANSI/BICSI 002, and applicable local requirements
- Coordinate technical interfaces across all engineering disciplines and resolve multidisciplinary design issues
- Review technical specifications, drawings, calculations, equipment schedules, and contractor submissions
- Review commissioning plans, testing procedures, method statements, and integrated systems testing scripts
- Participate in or witness functional performance testing and integrated systems testing
- Review testing results and verify the completion of corrective actions
- Support Tier certification, technical due diligence, tender evaluations, and project proposals
- Provide specialist advice to clients, project teams, contractors, vendors, and commissioning authorities
Required Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Data Center Engineering, or a related engineering field
- Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Specialist, ATS (Mandatory)
- Certified Data Centre Professional, CDCP
- Minimum 20 years of overall relevant engineering experience
- Minimum five years of dedicated data center project experience
- Experience on at least two hyperscale or enterprise data centers exceeding 10 MW
- Demonstrated experience reviewing Tier III and Tier IV data center designs
- Experience in commissioning and integrated systems testing of mission-critical facilities
- Strong knowledge of concurrent maintainability, fault tolerance, redundancy, and single-point-of-failure assessment
- Strong knowledge of mission-critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure
- Knowledge of Uptime Institute Tier Standards, ANSI/TIA-942, and ANSI/BICSI 002
- Ability to review multidisciplinary engineering designs, calculations, specifications, and technical submissions
- Strong analytical, technical problem-solving, and risk-assessment skills
- Effective communication, coordination, and stakeholder-management skills
- Ability to work independently and provide authoritative specialist advice
