About The Role

Howmet Fastening Systems is seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer II to join their dynamic team at the Kingston, NY manufacturing facility. This role is pivotal in collaborating with Product Design Engineering, planning, and ensuring the technical success and timely delivery of design and development projects related to new products and product improvements for installation equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating detailed drawings, performing technical analysis, and supporting prototype development and testing. Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Design Engineer II will play a key role in advancing innovative fastening solutions used across aerospace and industrial sectors. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a seasoned engineer to contribute to cutting-edge projects within a global leader in aerospace fasteners and installation tooling.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Candidates must have between five to eight years of relevant engineering experience, demonstrating proficiency in CAD software, FEA analysis, and project management. Strong communication skills, especially in technical documentation and collaboration, are essential. Candidates should be legally authorized to work in the United States, with verification of employment eligibility required. U.S. person status is mandatory due to ITAR regulations, which include U.S. citizens, permanent residents, political asylees, or refugees. Preferred qualifications include experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motor control circuits, PLC programming, and familiarity with manufacturing environments and international business practices.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed drawings and working layouts for proposed designs, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Perform comprehensive analysis of forces, stresses, dynamics, and critical performance parameters to validate design integrity.
  • Coordinate drafting, detailing, prototype manufacturing, and performance evaluation activities for assigned projects.
  • Participate in project reviews to assess progress, troubleshoot issues, and implement necessary design modifications.
  • Maintain and update engineering documentation in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with sales personnel, system specialists, and other cross-functional teams to support product development and customer needs.
  • Contribute to cost-saving initiatives through innovative design or process improvements.
  • Support safety and environmental standards to ensure all work activities are performed responsibly and sustainably.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned by management to support project and organizational goals.
