Position Summary

We are seeking a licensed Director of Engineering to lead and expand our Texas operations. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing departmental operations, driving strategic growth initiatives, managing client relationships, and ensuring successful project delivery across multiple engineering disciplines in Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in civil, structural, construction, or architectural engineering, along with a proven ability to lead teams, develop business opportunities, and manage complex projects from inception through completion. This role offers the opportunity to shape and grow operations across key Texas markets while partnering closely with executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Lead and oversee departmental operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and performance standards.
  • Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, and support staff.
  • Establish processes and procedures that improve operational efficiency, project quality, and team performance.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to support regional growth strategies and business development initiatives.
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and contractual obligations.

Project & Technical Management

  • Coordinate project kick-off, milestone, and closeout meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review project schedules, deliverables, technical documents, and construction specifications.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the design, investigation, and construction phases of projects.
  • Oversee forensic inspections, field investigations, testing activities, structural evaluations, and technical reporting.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections, documenting findings through field notes, measurements, photographs, and reports.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of technical specifications, drawings, expert reports, and construction documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, industry regulations, and safety standards.

Client Relations & Business Development

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and legal teams.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and technical expert during mediations, depositions, and project-related meetings.
  • Represent the organization at networking events, industry conferences, seminars, and continuing education presentations.
  • Identify new business opportunities and support regional marketing efforts.

Team Development & Supervision

  • Conduct interviews and support hiring efforts to build high-performing teams.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback and guidance.
  • Make recommendations regarding promotions, performance improvement plans, and staffing decisions.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture required.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a related discipline preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience within the architectural and engineering consulting industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams, managing projects, and driving business growth.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) license required.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Architectural Intern certification preferred where applicable.
  • OSHA-10 Certification preferred.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent project management abilities with experience handling multiple concurrent projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, BricsCAD, Revit, or similar drafting software preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Willingness to travel and work in field environments as required.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely use ladders, scaffolds, and other access equipment.
  • Capable of standing and walking for extended periods, including on uneven terrain.
  • Flexibility to accommodate project schedules and overtime requirements when necessary.
