We’re seeking an Electric Utility Distribution Manager to oversee regional design and project delivery teams supporting overhead and underground distribution infrastructure projects. This role is focused on utility engineering operations — not supply chain, logistics, or general construction management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead multiple electric distribution engineering and design teams across a regional territory
- Manage project execution for utility clients, ensuring work is delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with NESC, client standards, and utility requirements
- Oversee engineering/design activities for:
- Overhead & underground distribution systems
- Reconductoring projects
- Voltage conversions
- Circuit rebuilds
- DOT relocations
- Large customer/development feeds
- Provide technical leadership, QA/QC oversight, resource planning, and performance management for engineering staff
- Support client relationships, proposals, contract discussions, and business development initiatives
- Track operational and financial metrics, including departmental budgets, utilization, forecasting, and reporting
- Mentor, develop, and recruit engineering talent while promoting a strong safety culture
- Serve as a client-facing technical advisor and escalation point on project-related issues
- Drive process improvements, workflow efficiency, and engineering quality initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field
- 7+ years of experience in distribution engineering design with a utility or engineering consulting firm
- Prior leadership experience managing engineering teams and utility projects
Strong knowledge of:
- Overhead & underground distribution systems
- Utility construction standards
- National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
- Experience with utility engineering software such as:
- SPIDAcalc
- O-Calc
- Pole Foreman
- Katapult
- AutoCAD
- SPANS, NJUNS, or IkeGPS preferred
- Strong background in project management, budgeting, client interaction, and team development
- Ability to read and interpret utility engineering drawings and schematics
- Remote/work-from-home role with occasional travel to client sites and regional offices (up to ~20%)
