This role is ideal for an early-career engineer interested in drones, robotics, embedded systems, and defense technology.

What You'll Do

  • Design multilayer PCBs for drone electronics
  • Develop and debug embedded firmware (C/C++) for microcontrollers
  • Work on RF systems, including radios and antenna design
  • Perform hardware debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and lab equipment
  • Solder, prototype, and assemble electronic systems
  • Use 3D printing and CAD to support rapid hardware development
  • Assist with testing, validation, and iteration of new drone platforms
  • Help automate and improve internal engineering processes

Technical Areas You'll Work In

  • Embedded systems and microcontrollers (STM32 / ESP32)
  • RF communication and antenna design
  • Power distribution and battery systems for drones
  • Hardware debugging and signal integrity
  • High-density PCB layout
  • Rapid prototyping and hardware iteration

Tools & Technologies

  • Altium Designer or KiCad
  • C/C++ for embedded firmware
  • SPI, I2C, and UART communication protocols
  • Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and RF test equipment

  • 3D printing and rapid prototyping tools

Who We're Looking For

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience building, prototyping, testing, or troubleshooting electronic systems
  • UC San Diego preferred
  • Hands-on builder mindset — comfortable prototyping and troubleshooting hardware
  • Interest in drones, robotics, RF systems, or defense technology
  • Self-motivated and able to work on-site in Torrey Pines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen due to the nature of the work

Bonus Experience

  • FPV drone or robotics projects
  • Embedded firmware development
  • RF or antenna design
  • PCB layout and hardware bring-up

Why Join Monolyth
