Engineering Manager – Precision Manufacturing & Application Engineering
Location: Bandung, Indonesia
Employment Type: Full-time
Company Overview
Plus Group is a multi-industry precision manufacturing and engineering group specializing in pharmaceutical tooling (tablet punch & dies), automotive precision components, and high-accuracy engineered parts for regulated industries. Across our manufacturing, distribution, and retail arms, we serve local and global customers with reliable quality, strong technical capabilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Our production facility in Bandung is equipped with advanced CNC machining, grinding, metrology, and quality assurance systems to meet stringent international standards. As we expand into global markets and higher-value industries—including pharmaceutical and aerospace—we are strengthening our engineering capabilities to move beyond execution into true engineering excellence.
About the Role
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and transform our engineering function from a drawing-based support role into a strong design and application engineering capability.
This role combines:
- Product Engineering (design & manufacturability)
- Application Engineering (customer-facing technical solutions)
- Team Leadership (people, system, and culture development)
You will be responsible for building an engineering team that does not only execute drawings, but thinks critically, designs intelligently, and solves complex industrial problems—particularly in pharmaceutical tooling and aerospace-grade precision components.
This is a strategic role that directly impacts product quality, operational reliability, and scalability of the business.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team (design, product, and application engineers).
- Transform team mindset from “drawing execution” → “engineering ownership & problem-solving.”
- Establish structured engineering workflows, standards, and review systems.
- Build engineering capability in:
- Design thinking
- Root-cause problem solving
- Cross-functional collaboration
- Define team KPIs aligned with quality, efficiency, and reliability.
2. Product Engineering & Design Authority
- Oversee design and development of:
- Pharmaceutical tooling (punches, dies, accessories)
- Aerospace & high-precision components
- Custom engineered products
- Ensure all designs meet:
- Functional requirements
- Manufacturability (DFM/DFA)
- Cost efficiency
- Regulatory and quality standards
- Review and approve engineering drawings, tolerances (GD&T), and specifications.
- Lead engineering change processes (ECN/ECO) and continuous product improvements.
3. Application Engineering (Pharma & Aerospace)
- Act as technical bridge between customers, sales, and internal teams.
- Provide engineering consultation for:
- Pharmaceutical tableting issues (sticking, picking, capping, wear, etc.)
- Tooling optimization and lifecycle improvement
- Aerospace precision requirements and tolerance control
- Translate customer problems into engineered, manufacturable solutions.
- Support RFQs, technical discussions, and key customer engagements.
- Develop internal technical knowledge base and application references.
4. Manufacturing Integration & Risk Analysis
- Ensure accurate translation of designs into:
- CNC machining processes
- Grinding and finishing processes
- Heat treatment and surface treatment
- Define machining routing, process sequence, and critical control parameters.
- Conduct manufacturing risk analysis, including:
- Process failure risks (tolerance deviation, distortion, tool wear)
- Material risks (hardness inconsistency, heat treatment variability)
- Process capability risks (Cp/Cpk awareness where applicable)
- Implement preventive controls and mitigation strategies before production release.
- Work closely with Production to improve:
- Yield
- Cycle time
- Process stability
- Drive manufacturability and risk review before product release.
5. Quality, Compliance & Problem Solving
- Partner with QA for:
- Root-cause analysis (RCA)
- CAPA implementation
- Non-conformity resolution
- Ensure compliance with:
- ISO 9001:2015
- CPAKB / relevant pharmaceutical standards
- Aerospace quality expectations (as applicable)
- Establish strong engineering documentation discipline:
- Drawings
- BOMs
- Revision control
- Technical records
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
- Minimum 5–8 years experience in precision manufacturing, tooling, or engineering roles.
- Proven experience in leading engineering teams.
- Strong expertise in:
- CNC machining, grinding, wirecut
- GD&T and tolerance stack-up
- Materials (tool steel, carbide, stainless steel)
- Heat treatment and surface finishing
- Experience in at least one of the following industries:
- Pharmaceutical tooling (EU/TSM standards)
- Aerospace precision components
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, Mastercam, etc.).
- Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving ability.
- Able to work cross-functionally with Production, QA, Sales, and management.
- Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and good working proficiency in English.
What Success Looks Like
- Engineering team operates as solution-driven engineers, not drafters.
- Reduced product issues through strong design validation and risk control.
- High first-pass yield due to strong manufacturability and risk analysis.
- Faster and more accurate conversion from customer requirement → production.
- Stronger technical credibility in pharmaceutical and aerospace markets.
- Structured, audit-ready engineering documentation system.
Benefits of Joining Us
- Competitive salary aligned with engineering leadership roles.
- Opportunity to build and transform an engineering function.
- Exposure to regulated industries and global market standards.
- Hands-on involvement in complex, high-precision engineering challenges.
- Collaborative, structured, and improvement-driven working environment.
