Engineering Team Lead / Project Manager
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Team Lead / Project Manager to support U.S.-based sheet metal fabrication companies serving the bus, passenger rail, and aerospace industries. This role combines technical engineering expertise with project management responsibilities and requires a strong background in sheet metal manufacturing processes.
Prior experience in a sheet metal fabrication environment is required.
Experience managing other staff is required for the Team Lead position.
Key Responsibilities:
• Review customer 2D PDF drawings and specifications
• Create and modify 3D models and assemblies using SolidWorks
• Estimate material requirements using nesting software
• Calculate manufacturing times for laser cutting, press brake forming, and welding operations
• Manage engineering projects from quotation through production release
• Identify manufacturability concerns and recommend cost-effective solutions
• Coordinate with customers and internal teams to ensure timely project completion
Required Experience:
• Extensive experience in sheet metal fabrication, particularly laser cutting, press brake forming, and welding
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and interpretation of engineering drawings
• Good knowledge of press brake operations, including tooling selection, bend calculations, tonnage requirements, and machine limitations
• Ability to evaluate parts against existing tooling inventories and press brake capacities, identifying any additional tooling or equipment requirements
• Familiarity with nesting software and manufacturing cost estimation
The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing professional who understands both engineering design and real-world fabrication processes and can lead projects while providing technical guidance to customers and production teams.
