Position: Flood and Coastal Risk Management Team Member – 34001
Flood and Coastal Risk Management Team Member
This role is part of the Asset Performance team within the Flood and Coastal Risk Management Department. You will be based in Chelmsford and oversee flood risk assets across Essex, inspecting, maintaining, and refurbishing riverbanks, sluice gates, flood storage reservoirs and other assets to protect communities from flooding.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and maintain flood risk assets to meet required standards.
- Refurbish assets as part of the full lifecycle management.
- Manage and maintain high‑quality asset data using the Asset Information Management System and GIS.
- Conduct site work to collect, analyze and interpret information to inform investment programmes.
- Act as a Flood Incident Duty Officer, responding to incidents and providing business continuity support.
- Participate in incident training and support, with possible additional payment and alternative working arrangements.
Qualifications
- Experience in asset management, data management or engineering within the environmental or water sector.
- Proficiency with GIS, data management and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to walk long distances for site inspections, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
- Recent graduate or prior experience; a driving licence for site visits.
