Furniture Product Development Engineer – Upholstery & Technical Design
Worcester, MA | Hybrid | Full-Time
$80,000 – $130,000 per annum + 401k options +healthcare

This is an opportunity to join as the go-to product development expert for a 40 year plus established family-owned furniture and upholstery leading specialist as they enter their next phase of growth in product development and offerings.
The ideal candidate will love the challenge ahead of them; combine furniture design knowledge, engineering thinking and strong commercial awareness – someone comfortable moving between customer conversations, CAD development, technical documentation, manufacturing requirements, and collaboration with overseas design partners.
This is a unique and rare opportunity to take ownership of an evolving product function and be the go-to expert to create the systems, standards and technical foundations that will support long-term growth.
THE ROLE:
* Own and develop the company's furniture and upholstery product portfolio, creating structure across technical documentation, catalogue management, product libraries, revision control, and scalable development processes.
* Translate licensed designs, customer concepts, and custom product requests into manufacturable solutions through CAD development, technical detailing, specifications, and engineering coordination.
* Lead the creation and standardisation of technical drawings, assembly instructions, construction manuals, templating methods, and product documentation to improve quality, consistency, and speed to market.
* Act as the technical bridge between customers, internal teams, and overseas design/manufacturing partners while supporting the delivery of five new product launches annually and driving continuous improvement in construction and manufacturability.
THE PERSON:
* Previous experience within Furniture Product Development, Technical Furniture Design, Product Engineering, Design Engineering, or similar technical product roles within furniture or upholstery environments.
* Strong CAD and technical documentation capability with experience producing drawing packs, assembly instructions, BOMs, manufacturing specifications, and converting concepts into production-ready outputs.
* Proven understanding of furniture construction, upholstery methods, design-for-manufacture principles, and working with external manufacturers or international design partners.
* Commercially minded, process-driven, and comfortable taking ownership within a growing business – able to introduce structure, improve ways of working, and operate effectively across technical and stakeholder-facing environments.
