Phoenix Marine is a leading South African manufacturer of high-performance luxury vessels of exceptional quality and innovation for the international market. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on and results-driven Head of Sub Assembly to lead our Sub Assembly Division, comprising Carpentry, Joinery, Corian, Upholstery and Spray Painting. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader with a passion for manufacturing excellence, quality, continuous improvement and team development within the marine industry
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Sub Assembly Division, including Carpentry, Joinery, Corian, Upholstery and Spray Painting, ensuring all departments achieve production, quality and safety objectives.
- Plan, coordinate and oversee all sub-assembly manufacturing activities in line with production schedules.
- Ensure all components are manufactured to specification and delivered to Production on time and to the highest quality standards.
- Drive productivity, workflow optimisation, operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives across all sub-assembly departments.
- Coordinate closely with Design, Procurement, Stores, Quality Control and Production to ensure uninterrupted workflow and material availability.
- Manage departmental resources, labour planning, productivity, quality performance and daily operational targets.
- Develop, coach and lead Supervisors, Team Leaders and employees to build a high-performing and accountable team.
- Ensure compliance with company quality systems, manufacturing procedures, Health & Safety requirements and operational standards.
- Monitor departmental KPIs, identify opportunities for improvement and implement corrective actions to achieve business objectives.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a supervisory or management role within a manufacturing environment (marine manufacturing experience will be advantageous).
- Proven experience managing multiple production departments and leading large teams.
- Experience in one or more of the following manufacturing disciplines will be advantageous: Carpentry, Joinery, Corian, Upholstery, Spray Painting
- Strong understanding of production planning, quality management, lean manufacturing and process improvement.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, planning and problem-solving skills.
- Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems.
- Ability to work under pressure while managing multiple priorities and meeting production deadlines.
