Junior Electrical Designer
Location: Western Suburbs of Philadelphia, PA
Job Type: Full-Time | Entry Level

A growing manufacturer of mission-critical electrical power equipment is seeking a Junior Electrical Designer to join its engineering team. This is an outstanding opportunity for a recent Electrical Engineering graduate or early-career professional with a strong internship or co-op experience in electrical design, power systems, switchgear, or industrial manufacturing.
You’ll work alongside experienced electrical engineers to develop designs for low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment used in industrial, utility, and critical power applications. This role offers excellent mentorship, hands-on exposure to manufacturing, and long-term career growth.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design of low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical equipment and control panels.
- Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and single-line diagrams using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs), wire lists, and terminal schedules.
- Support engineering changes and update existing electrical drawings.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, project management, and production teams to ensure designs are accurate and buildable.
- Assist with creating as-built drawings and maintaining engineering documentation.
- Help maintain electrical design standards, drawing libraries, and component databases.
- Support prototype builds, production troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in design reviews and learn industry best practices for electrical power equipment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- 0-2 years of experience (internships and co-ops are highly valued).
- Internship or co-op experience with medium-voltage (MV) switchgear is strongly preferred.
- Experience with low-voltage (LV) switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), substations, power distribution equipment, or industrial electrical systems is also highly desirable.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and single-line diagrams.
- Understanding of electrical components including breakers, transformers, relays, panels, and control wiring.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn from senior engineers.
Preferred Experience
Experience gained through internships or co-ops involving:
- Low-Voltage (LV) or Medium-Voltage (MV) switchgear
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Power distribution equipment
- Control panel design
- Industrial manufacturing
- UL 891, UL 1558, IEEE C37 standards
- Schneider Electric, Eaton, Siemens, ABB, or similar electrical equipment
