Our Volex Tijuana facility has been a leading company in the region since September 1993. We specialize in the manufacturing, assembly, construction, design, marketing, import, and export of products related to electronic circuits, electrical conduction cables, and electrical components for appliances, computers, medical diagnostic equipment, and other applications.
As part of our growth strategy, the site is expanding its operations to include the production of harnesses and connectors for the automotive sector. This expansion represents an exciting opportunity for continued success for the plant and for everyone who is part of the Volex team.
Core areas of the Role include:
- Lead and develop the Engineering team, ensuring professional growth, effective resource allocation, and achievement of departmental objectives.
- Drive new product introduction (NPI) and product transfer projects, ensuring compliance with technical, operational, quality, and production capacity requirements.
- Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), ensuring proper implementation, documentation, and communication of product and process changes.
- Promote operational excellence and continuous improvement, through the implementation of best practices, manufacturing methodologies, VPS, and applicable production systems.
- Manage engineering projects, CAPEX investments, tooling, and equipment, ensuring proper planning, validation, installation, commissioning, and operational performance.
- Ensure manufacturing capacity and process performance, meeting customer requirements, productivity targets, and process capability objectives.
- Review and approve technical and quality documentation, including APQP deliverables, layouts, process documentation, deviations, operational controls, and management system requirements.
- Actively participate in audits, corrective actions, and regulatory compliance activities, ensuring adherence to corporate standards, regulatory requirements, and certification systems.
- Lead process risk reduction initiatives, including RPN reduction plans, Poka-Yoke implementation, ergonomics programs, and other preventive and control methodologies.
- Promote cross-functional collaboration and benchmarking across plants, facilitating standardization, best-practice sharing, and support to operational and manufacturing teams.
- Monitor and communicate Engineering key performance indicators (KPIs), driving actions to achieve strategic business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, safety, occupational health, environmental regulations, and applicable internal standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or related field (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of complex wire harness production processes is required.
- Strong knowledge of APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning).
- Experience with PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) with effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership, team management, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication, problem-solving, and project management abilities.
- Completion of company onboarding and required quality system training.
