Overview
Mechanical Engineer Internship Jobs in Rotterdam, South Holland, Netherlands at Airlift Systems
Title: Mechanical Engineer Internship
Company: Airlift Systems
Location: Rotterdam, South Holland, Netherlands
AirliftSystems is an aerial robotics company developing a new generation of aerial robots to tackle complex industrial missions. Our unique approach relies on tight integration of novel hardware innovations with advanced autonomy software, redefining what is possible in aerial robotics. We operate in stealth mode as we finalize core technology ahead of a broader public release.
The Role
We are looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer Intern to support the design and development of mechanical systems and end-effectors integrated with our aerial platforms.
These systems must operate in challenging real-world conditions—interacting physically with surfaces, managing load transfer, and maintaining performance under dynamic motion. You will translate functional and performance requirements into robust, manufacturable mechanical designs that can be rapidly prototyped and validated.
This role involves hands-on engineering from concept through testing and iteration.
What You Will Work On
- Developing mechanisms that balance performance, weight, and manufacturability
- Iterating designs through rapid prototyping and real-world testing
- Translating system-level requirements into practical mechanical solutions
- Working closely with control, electronics, and software teams
What Makes This Internship Different
- Real engineering challenges (not academic exercises)
- Direct collaboration with robotics and control engineers
- Exposure to dynamic systems under load
- Opportunity to influence product architecture
- Startup environment with real responsibility
We’re Looking For
- Student in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems and design principles
- Experience designing mechanisms (moving parts, assemblies, linkages)
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.)
- Ability to work on-site and collaborate across disciplines
- Interest in robotics, hardware systems, or aerial platforms
- Experience with prototyping (3D printing, CNC, testing)
- Understanding of structural load paths and mechanical constraints
- Industrial design experience (form, usability, product integration) is a plus
