THE ROLE
As a New Model Package Development Associate, you will be responsible for the design and development of packaging for parts to and from the client. The role is ideal for anyone with an engineering background with a key focus on design and project management. Your days will be spent designing packs through Catia V6 and develop the pack from concept to implementation.
The position will involve both Mass Pro and New Model activity and working with various stakeholders and line associates to problem solve and find the root cause of various packaging issues. The ideal candidate must be very organized, be able to work fast and efficiently, and have strong problem-solving skills to quickly identify and rectify mistakes. Additionally, the successful candidate will have strong communication skills and the ability to negotiate and coordinate with vendors and fabricators.
The position will also require input and assistance from several different stakeholders and business partners, so strong interpersonal abilities and project management skills are crucial.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop returnable packaging for parts (custom and modular containers) for domestic and export packaging from design, prototyping, testing, to mass production implementation
- Ensure projects are completed within budget and timeline
- Overlays of current vs new design using Catia V6 to confirm design changes on packaging
- Propose part design changes to ensure packing/transportation efficiency using Change Request Forms (CRFs)
- Coordinate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to receive packaging approvals and feasibility
- Demonstrated initiative through leadership and problem investigation and solution implementation.
- Demonstrates a go-to-the-spot, 4M, hands-on engineering mindset
- Experience working in a fast paced, results oriented environment
- Knowledge of purchasing, transportation or packaging experience
- Ability to interpret parts list and design changes.
- Awareness of commodity materials and applications to packaging design
- Strong quantitative and analytical approach to problem solving and decision making.
- Participate in material selection, vendor selection, and negotiating cost and schedules during development process
- Incorporate creativity and new technology into rack designs to develop efficient and quality conscious packaging
- Quick response and investigation to New Model and Mass Production pack/part concerns
- Decision Analysis to determine best path forward based on Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety
REQUIREMENTS
- Engineering Degree or Technical Diploma or related equivalent experience in developing packaging design
- Minimum 2 years of Project Management experience in a work setting (i.e., developing project scope, schedule creation and tracking, and reporting)
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Demonstrated experience with CATIA V6 (3DX)
- Microsoft Office skills, including Excel; use functions to manage and format data
- Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally on short notice; valid Canadian passport or B1 visa for business travel required at time of application
- Willing and able to work overtime on short notice
- Willing and able to work flexible shift rotation
- Valid “G” driver’s license
- Willing to complete yard sweeps and production support
