Company Description Black Chrome Mine is a well-capitalized, developing underground chrome operation with an economically minable reserve exceeding 20 million tons of chrome ore. Located on the Mooihoek farm in the Eastern Limb of the Bushveld Igneous Complex, the mine operates in South Africa’s Limpopo province, approximately 100 km southeast of Polokwane. The operation is underpinned by a mining right valid until 2033, with the option for renewal, providing long-term stability. The LG6 reef horizon offers consistent ore thickness and geology suitable for conventional underground mining via a decline shaft. High ore grades, combined with hardness and low friability, position Black Chrome Mine as a producer of premium, low-cost chrome ore with competitive operating costs.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Plant Engineer role based at Black Chrome Mine in Fetakgomo Tubatse. The Plant Engineer is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of processing plant equipment and associated infrastructure. Daily activities include overseeing plant operations, monitoring performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing improvements to maximize throughput and plant availability. The role involves planning and managing preventative and corrective maintenance, coordinating with maintenance and operations teams, and leading troubleshooting efforts for mechanical, electrical, and process-related issues. The Plant Engineer will also support compliance with safety, health, environmental, and quality standards, manage technical projects and upgrades, and provide technical guidance to plant personnel.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in Plant Engineering and Plant Operations, including process optimization and production support.
- Proficiency in Plant Maintenance and Troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and control systems in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
- Working knowledge of Power Generation and related plant utilities, including reliability and energy efficiency considerations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent relevant engineering discipline).
- Several years of experience in a plant engineering role, preferably within mining, minerals processing, or similar continuous-process industries.
- Demonstrated experience with preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, maintenance planning, and asset management systems (e.g., CMMS).
- Thorough understanding of safety regulations, risk assessments, and safe work practices in an industrial or mining context.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data and plant performance metrics.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and shift environments.
- Professional registration or eligibility for registration with a recognized engineering body is an advantage.
