Role Description This full-time, on-site Plastics Project Engineer role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Plastics Project Engineer will manage plastic molding projects from concept through production, including design-for-manufacturability reviews, part and tool validation, and coordination with internal tooling, manufacturing, and quality teams. Daily responsibilities include developing project plans and schedules, tracking milestones, resolving technical issues in tooling and molding processes, and supporting process validation and qualification activities. The role will involve close collaboration with customers to clarify requirements, provide technical guidance, and communicate project status, risks, and mitigation plans. The engineer will also support continuous improvement initiatives, including optimization of molding parameters and implementation of Lean and TPS-based practices on the production floor.
Qualifications
- Strong Project Engineering and Project Planning skills, with experience overseeing technical projects from requirements through launch.
- Effective Communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and interface directly with customers and suppliers.
- Project Management capabilities, including scheduling, risk management, resource coordination, and progress reporting.
- Engineering background with experience in plastics, injection molding, or related manufacturing; Electrical Engineering experience is a plus for tooling, controls, or automation interfaces.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Familiarity with scientific molding principles, DFM guidelines, and troubleshooting molding and tooling issues.
- Experience working in ISO-certified or regulated environments; knowledge of ISO 13485 or medical/precision components is advantageous.
- Proficiency with CAD tools and basic data analysis to support design reviews, tolerance assessments, and process capability evaluations.
- Ability to work on-site in the SF Bay Area, manage multiple concurrent projects, and adapt to a fast-paced, lean manufacturing environment.
