Power Service Transformer Engineer – Job Description
1) Job Summary
The Power Service Transformer Engineer is responsible for installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and overhaul of power transformers (LV/MV/HV/EHV) at substations and industrial facilities. The role ensures reliability, compliance with standards, and minimized downtime.
2) Key Responsibilities
A. Installation & Commissioning
- Supervise transformer erection, oil filling, vacuum treatment, and drying processes.
- Conduct pre-commissioning and commissioning tests (FAT/SAT coordination when required).
- Ensure compliance with drawings, method statements, and safety procedures.
B. Testing & Diagnostics
- Perform and interpret tests such as:
- Insulation Resistance (IR)
- Transformer Turns Ratio (TTR)
- Winding Resistance
- Capacitance & Tan Delta (Power Factor)
- Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA)
- Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) interpretation
- Partial Discharge (PD) testing
- Analyze results and issue technical reports with corrective recommendations.
C. Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Plan preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
- Diagnose faults (overheating, oil leakage, abnormal gases, bushing failures, OLTC issues).
- Supervise repair, refurbishment, or retrofitting works.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5–10+ years of experience in power transformer service/testing.
- Experience with HV/EHV transformers (132kV, 220kV, 400kV preferred).
