Procurement Specialist – Indirect & Direct Materials

Functional Purpose & Role Summary

In this role, you will be responsible for managing procurement activities across both indirect spend and direct materials that support a U.S.-based manufacturing environment and the launch of a new headquarters. This includes sourcing, supplier management, spend optimization, and cross-functional collaboration. As the organization grows, the scope of this role may evolve, becoming more specialized across indirect procurement, direct materials procurement, or both to support scaling operations.

Key Responsibilities

Indirect Procurement (Facilities, CapEx, Services & New Facility Start-Up)

  • Lead sourcing and purchasing for indirect categories including facilities services, utilities, IT, capital equipment, and transportation
  • Support build-out, commissioning, and ongoing operational needs of a new U.S. manufacturing facility.
  • Manage RFQs, bids, and supplier evaluations for indirect spend.
  • Negotiate contracts and service agreements ensuring competitive pricing and supplier performance.
  • Introduce and onboard new suppliers; conduct commercial assessments and market analyses.
  • Partner with Facilities, Operations, IT, EHS, and Finance on procurement initiatives.

Direct Materials Procurement (U.S. Manufacturing)

  • Manage sourcing of direct components, raw materials, and production-critical items.
  • Establish contracts with key and strategic spare parts suppliers, ensuring global alignment on shared spend.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, R&D, and Quality on localization and supplier qualification.
  • Order prototypes, samples, and pre-production materials.
  • Monitor lead times and material availability to ensure supply continuity.
  • Execute negotiations on pricing, delivery conditions, supply agreements, and SAP system accuracy
  • Lead cost reduction initiatives and contribute to commodity strategy development.

Supplier Management & Collaboration

  • Develop and manage supplier relationships, including performance and KPI tracking.
  • Drive supplier quality and compliance in partnership with Quality teams.
  • Support risk management activities for both direct and indirect categories.
  • Ensure adherence to sourcing guidelines, ethics, and company policies.

Sourcing Operations, Reporting & Improvement

  • Provide regular spend, savings, and project progress reporting.
  • Support strategic sourcing initiatives and long-term spend optimization.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional sourcing projects.
  • Perform market intelligence, cost analysis, and benchmarking to support decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Economics, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing both indirect and/or direct materials.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Experience supporting facility operations, MRO, or capital procurement is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially Excel.
