About the Role
This is a full-time, on-site position for a Purchase Specialist at our Paonta Sahib facility. The role manages end-to-end purchasing operations — from supplier sourcing and negotiation through purchase order management, inventory coordination, and vendor performance evaluation. The Purchase Specialist will work closely with production planning, stores, quality, and finance to ensure timely, cost-effective, and quality-assured procurement of raw materials, consumables, components, and capital items.
The role calls for a structured, analytical, and commercially sharp professional who is comfortable working in an SAP-driven environment and who treats supplier relationships as long-term partnerships rather than transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end procurement operations, including indent processing, RFQ floating, comparative analysis, purchase order creation, and order tracking
- Source, evaluate, and develop suppliers for raw materials (alloy steel, scrap, ferro-alloys), consumables, machined components, rubber and elastomer materials, hydraulic components, and capital equipment as required
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and contractual terms with domestic and international suppliers
- Operate the procurement module in SAP for purchase requisitions, purchase orders, goods receipt notes (GRN), and invoice verification workflows
- Monitor and maintain optimal inventory levels in coordination with production planning and stores; track lead times, reorder points, and safety stock levels
- Evaluate supplier performance against quality, delivery, cost, and responsiveness metrics, and drive continuous improvement
- Maintain accurate procurement records, vendor master data, contract documentation, and audit trails
- Coordinate with the quality team on incoming material inspection, supplier non-conformances, and corrective action follow-ups
- Support cost reduction initiatives, alternate vendor development, and import substitution programmes
- Prepare procurement MIS reports and contribute to monthly and quarterly reviews
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
- 3–8 years of hands-on experience in industrial or manufacturing procurement
- Working proficiency in SAP — specifically the MM (Materials Management) module, including PR, PO, GRN, and vendor master workflows
- Strong knowledge of purchasing processes, purchase order management, and procurement documentation
- Demonstrated experience in vendor negotiation, contracting, and commercial closure
- Sound understanding of inventory management principles — reorder points, safety stock, lead-time management, ABC and FSN analysis
- Strong analytical skills with comfort in Microsoft Excel for cost comparison, trend analysis, and reporting
- Excellent organisational, time management, and communication skills
- Commitment to ethical procurement practices and confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in the manufacturing, foundry, railway parts, automotive components, or heavy engineering sector
- Exposure to import procurement, including incoterms, customs documentation, and freight forwarding coordination
- Familiarity with quality systems (IRIS, ISO 9001, ISO/TS) and supplier qualification protocols
- Experience working with cross-functional teams in production planning, stores, quality, and finance
- Working knowledge of GST, e-way bills, and procurement-related statutory compliance
What We Offer
- A high-ownership role at the centre of a growing manufacturing operation
- Direct exposure to procurement for programmes serving Indian Railways and international OEMs
- Opportunity to shape supplier ecosystems and contribute to long-term sourcing strategy
- Compensation benchmarked to industry standards, with performance-linked components
- Relocation and accommodation support for candidates moving to the Paonta Sahib region
