SUMMARY
The Regulatory and Policy Associate is a key member of MARA’s Government Affairs & Social Responsibility (GASR) team, which is responsible for managing the political, regulatory, climate, and sustainability responsibilities, as well as the community landscape that shapes MARA’s ability to operate, expand, and lead as a large-load energy participant. The GASR team supports MARA’s broader vision to enable responsible innovation, regulatory clarity, and long-term operational resilience. The GASR team advances enterprise priorities through coordinated regulatory engagement, policy strategy, sustainability, community engagement, philanthropy, and sustained partnerships with key stakeholders, policy makers, investors and communities.
The Regulatory and Policy Associate will support MARA’s regulatory and policy efforts across North American electricity markets. This role will assist with regulatory monitoring, analysis, stakeholder engagement, and internal coordination related to wholesale power markets, grid services, and energy market participation. The position offers hands-on exposure to energy regulation and market design while working closely with internal senior regulatory, government affairs and social responsibility leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Regulatory Monitoring & Analysis
- Support monitoring of ISO/RTO regulatory, market, and reliability developments (including FERC, PJM, ERCOT, SPP, MISO and WECC) affecting wholesale electricity markets, grid services, interconnection, transmission, and capacity frameworks.
- Assist with regulatory impact analyses by researching and summarizing potential implications for MARA’s business.
- Maintain background research, reference materials, and regulatory trackers to support internal teams.
Market Design, Policy & Stakeholder Support
- Assist in evaluating energy market structures and evolving market rules relevant to MARA’s participation and growth.
- Support participation in regulatory proceedings, stakeholder processes, and rulemakings by preparing research, summaries, and support materials.
- Prepare internal policy memos and briefing materials to summarize regulatory developments, stakeholder meetings, and market design discussions.
Internal Coordination, Communications & Readiness
- Support internal coordination across regulatory, commercial, development, operations, and legal teams to help align messaging and approaches.
- Assist with drafting regulatory comments, RFIs, and advocacy materials under the guidance of senior leadership.
- Prepare briefing materials for meetings with regulators, agencies, and industry stakeholders.
- Maintain clear documentation of regulatory activities, internal positions, and engagement history.
- Support development of internal playbooks and response materials for emerging regulatory risks and opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Familiarity with U.S. wholesale electricity markets, FERC and ISO/RTO structures.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to perform effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and to adapt priorities in response to evolving policy and market conditions.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE and SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, energy, law, engineering, or related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in regulatory affairs, energy policy, or policy analysis within the energy, or technology industry (internships and fellowships considered).
- Experience engaging with or analyzing wholesale electricity markets, particularly within PJM, ERCOT, and SPP.
- Prior experience working at an independent power producer (IPP), utility, system operator, public utility commission (PUC), or regulatory agency.
