General Summary:
The Senior Director, Digital Applications Engineering leads the team in technical strategy, building software and managing the engineering team. The role is required to keep abreast of emerging technology trends and applications in the digital industry, including ecommerce, mobile, optimization, search, marketplace, artificial intelligence, personalization and loyalty technology. The position will directly manage the engineers, technology strategy and Level 3 support of the Digital technology stack. This role is responsible for developing the digital engineering strategy for optimizing technologies developed internally and those acquired externally, eliminating technical debt and coordinating team dependencies. This requires management of multiple complex products and initiatives. The position will be required to partner with external vendors, contractors, and offshore teams to obtain talent and technology. This position will have budget responsibility.
Duties & Responsibility:
- Oversee hiring, development, performance management, work schedules, and personnel issues.
- Identify, prioritize, develop and implement technology solutions which improve business processes, enhance productivity, reduce cost, and drive profitability.
- Develop and manage budgets, manage contracts, and seek opportunities to reduce costs and ensure financial efficiency.
- Maintain strong relationships with business units and other IT areas, acting as a liaison to identify and implement technology solutions that improve business processes and productivity.
- Identify, provide, and track training and development programs for staff to enhance their technical expertise and professional growth.
- Evaluate, improve, and implement processes across teams to advance engineering practices, including application architecture reviews and advisory board participation.
Knowledge:
- Experience to lead large teams and managing managers. Demonstrating leadership skills, including mission alignment, intellectual maturity, emotional stability, and consultative supervision.
- Must have experience in digital technologies across content management, digital asset management, personalization, loyalty, order management, ecommerce and personalization.
- Demonstrated expertise in the design, development, implementation, and troubleshooting of technology solutions.
- Excellent oral, written, listening, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to translate technical language to business language and vice versa.
- Experience with hardware, software, models, methods, and other technology-based intellectual property.
Provided full lifecycle cost estimates, domain specific support services
- Excellent Technology skills and the ability to lead multiple projects of increasing complexity from inception through completion.Projects may include complex cross product integrations.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively write. Tactful and diplomatic when required.
- Ability to motivate, reward, and provide constructive criticism and corrective action.
- Ability to teach, mentor and enhance skills of staff from entry level through leadership.
- Ability to set goals, evaluate and measure performance, and provide informal and formal feedback on performance.
Work Experience/ Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Masters Degree preferred.
- 12 years of experience in management in related field.
- 10 years management/leadership experience in an engineering environment required.
- Experience in leading teams of 10 or more people, with at least 6 direct reports.
- 10+ years of objected oriented programming for software
- 10 years of design inclusive of scalability, disaster recovery, resiliency, obsolescence security, supportability, and suitability.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to rapid change.
- 5+ years of ecommerce technology platform experience.
- 5+ years in cloud-based technology solutions.
- 4+ years of working with and managing offshore resources
3+ years of experience with mobile development.
