Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Jobs in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia at ProFound People

Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Company: ProFound People

Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Location: Sydney, NSW

Work Type: Full Time

ProFound People is partnering with a highly regarded, Australian-born product design and manufacturing company. They are a global leader in designing and manufacturing precision mechanical products for international commercial markets.

They are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their R&D team. This role focuses on driving the end-to-end development of new, highly complex products from concept through to high-volume production, rather than simply modifying legacy CAD.

The Engineering Challenge:

This position requires deep mechanical intuition. You will be working intimately with high-cycle dynamic assemblies, load-bearing structural components, counter-balancing mechanisms, and controlled variable-friction systems.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Driving full-lifecycle product development, taking complex mechanical concepts from a blank page to mass production.
  • Designing precision components utilising die-cast aluminum, injection-molded plastics, and formed sheet metal.
  • Performing rigorous structural analysis and physical prototyping to ensure products meet strict global safety, dynamic load, and performance standards.
  • Collaborating closely with industrial designers to ensure aesthetic intent is maintained without compromising mechanical integrity or manufacturability.
  • Liaising directly with overseas manufacturing partners to optimize for DFM/DFA and resolve complex tooling challenges.
  • Mentoring mid-level engineers and elevating the team's technical output.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical product development, ideally within complex consumer goods, industrial equipment, or mechanism-heavy products.
  • Exceptional 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks or Creo preferred) with a mastery of complex surfacing and large assembly management.
  • Deep practical knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes (specifically injection molding, die-casting, and extrusion).
  • A strong grasp of kinematics, dynamic load distribution, and complex mechanical assemblies.
  • A hands-on approach to prototyping and a critical eye for tolerances and engineering changes.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to join a mature, deeply technical R&D team that respects the engineering process. It offers the chance to work on tangible, mechanically challenging products that are shipped globally and recognized for their robust engineering.
