Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer (Mechanisms) to join an innovative aerospace and defense engineering team in Carlsbad, California.
This position is ideal for an engineer with strong experience in mechanical system design, mechanisms, 3D CAD modeling, hardware development, prototyping, testing, and technical documentation. The successful candidate will support products throughout the entire engineering lifecycle—from concept development through integration, testing, and production.
An Active Top Secret (TS) or TS/SCI Security Clearance with a favorable Polygraph is required.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop complex mechanical systems and mechanisms.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models and engineering drawings.
- Generate Technical Data Packages (TDPs), including part and assembly drawings.
- Support the complete product lifecycle from requirements through production.
- Perform concept generation, material selection, trade studies, and design optimization.
- Prototype, assemble, integrate, and test mechanical components and assemblies.
- Develop mechanical subsystem test plans and procedures.
- Conduct testing, validation, and evaluation of components and systems.
- Troubleshoot design issues and recommend engineering improvements.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Present technical updates and design reviews to internal leadership and customer representatives.
- Support laboratory testing and hands-on hardware development.
- Prepare engineering documentation and maintain design records.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 6 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
- Active Top Secret (TS) or Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
- Active clearance within the last two years will also be considered.
- Favorable Polygraph.
- Strong mechanical design and mechanisms experience.
- Experience using 3D CAD software.
- Experience developing engineering drawings and Technical Data Packages.
- Experience with prototype development, integration, and testing.
- Strong understanding of materials selection and mechanical analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Aerospace or Defense industry experience.
- Experience designing precision mechanisms.
- Experience with laboratory testing and hardware integration.
- Experience supporting military or government programs.
- GD&T knowledge.
- Experience with mechanical design optimization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Work Schedule
9/80 Schedule
Employees work 80 hours over nine days every two weeks and receive every other Friday off.
