Role Description This is a full-time hybrid Solar Engineer role based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with flexibility for partial work from home. The Solar Engineer will design, size, and optimize PV systems for residential, commercial, and industrial projects, including preparation of single-line diagrams and layout drawings. Responsibilities include conducting site assessments, performing energy yield calculations, and preparing technical proposals and bill of materials. The role involves reviewing product specifications, selecting suitable panels, inverters, and balance-of-system components, and ensuring compliance with local electrical codes and industry standards. The Solar Engineer will support the sales team with technical documentation, respond to customer technical inquiries, coordinate with suppliers, and provide occasional on-site commissioning and troubleshooting support. The role also includes maintaining project documentation, contributing to continuous improvement of design standards, and staying current with solar technology and best practices.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of the solar industry and solar power fundamentals, including current technologies and market trends.
- Hands-on experience with solar systems design and integration, covering component selection and system configuration.
- Proficiency in PV design and electrical design, including system sizing, cable calculations, protection coordination, and layout development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical discipline.
- Familiarity with PV design and simulation tools (e.g., PVsyst, Helioscope, or similar) and basic CAD software.
- Knowledge of relevant electrical codes, standards, and safety practices applicable to solar installations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Previous experience in solar EPC, distribution, or project development in Africa or similar markets is an advantage.
