About the Role

Are you a Graduate Engineer or Technical Assistant with an interest in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and the marine industry, looking for your next challenge and an opportunity to develop your career?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly experienced Marine team based at the Applus+ Head Office facility in Bibra Lake.

As a Technical Assistant / Graduate Engineer, you will support the Marine Department in delivering inspection and reporting services to oil and gas clients. The role involves preparing inspection work packs, assisting with the review and compilation of final reports, and submitting documentation through client and Class software systems across hull and topside structural integrity scopes.

This position offers hands-on exposure to marine asset integrity management, NDT applications, classification requirements, and industry-leading inspection practices, with ongoing mentoring provided.

Key Responsibilities

As a Graduate Engineer, you will:

  • Develop a practical understanding of NDT methods and their application in inspection scope development, with mentoring provided.
  • Competantly complete Technical Test Records (TTRs) and associated reporting accurately and efficiently.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting of integrity-related issues as required
  • Develop proficiency in Class software systems, including Pegasus, Argonaut, TM Sheets, and related platforms.
  • Follow established reporting structures, quality processes, and site-specific procedures.
  • Maintain competency across Microsoft Office applications and reporting tools.

Principal Duties

  • Develop and maintain inspection work-packs for Risk Based Inspections (RBI) and associated NDT inspections
  • Coordinate NDT inspections carried out in line with material engineers' advice, project scope, and marine classification standards and procedures (e.g. ABS, DNVGL, Lloyd's Register).
  • Generate Technical Test Records (TTRs) from field-based data into NATA approved reports (various methods).
  • Analyse and develop measured NDT data for entry into hull integrity management software like Argonaut (Lloyd's Register) & ShipManager (DNVGL class).
  • Technical review of the hull and structural inspection reports including enhanced NDT surveys and reporting the results through different EDMS software (e.g. ASSAI and SAP).
  • Selection of appropriate Ultrasonic Testing methodologies for corrosion mapping and defect characterisation under the supervision of metallurgical engineers.

Skills, Experience and Attributes

  • Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy, consistency, and quality outcomes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with reporting software and digital engineering tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within the marine asset integrity and NDT sectors.
  • The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Engineering degree or relevant industry experience would be beneficial, with industry experience considered under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Desirable Knowledge

The following experience is advantageous; however, training and mentoring will be provided:

  • Understanding of ship structures, load paths, and structural failure mechanisms.
  • General awareness of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods and defect identification techniques.
  • Exposure to marine classification requirements and asset integrity management systems.
  • Familiarity with 3D modelling, reporting platforms, or engineering software.
