Key Result Areas / Main Responsibilities:
1. Technical Support and Diagnostics
· Provide advanced technical guidance and troubleshooting support to customer maintenance teams on Komatsu equipment.
· Perform complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic diagnosis.
· Perform breakdown investigations and root cause analysis to minimize repeat failures.
· Recommend corrective actions and repair methodologies aligned with OEM standards.
· Escalate recurring technical issues through appropriate OEM technical channels where required.
2. Planned Maintenance Support
· Support customer maintenance teams during planned maintenance interventions to ensure work quality and compliance with Komatsu standards.
· Guide technicians on correct maintenance procedures, inspection methods and repair practices.
· Provide technical input into PM execution planning in coordination with the planning team.
· Verify maintenance quality and identify opportunities for improving maintenance effectiveness.
3. Inspections and Defect Management
· Conduct detailed machine inspections across the fleet in scope.
· Identify defects and maintenance risks prior to failure.
· Draft detailed defect reports and parts requirements for inclusion into maintenance backlogs.
· Ensure inspection findings are communicated effectively to the customer maintenance team.
· Monitor machine condition trends and recommend preventive actions.
4. Condition Monitoring and Machine Health
· Monitor fleet condition through Komatsu technologies including EQP Care and KOMTRAX.
· Analyse machine health data to identify abnormal trends and early failure indicators.
· Review oil analysis results, filter inspections and performance test results.
· Support predictive maintenance practices to improve component life and reduce unplanned downtime.
· Ensure condition monitoring findings are translated into actionable maintenance recommendations.
5. Technical Coaching and Capability Development
· Mentor and coach customer maintenance personnel to strengthen technical competency on Komatsu equipment.
· Transfer OEM knowledge, best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
· Promote proper diagnostic discipline and adherence to OEM maintenance standards.
· Support continuous improvement of maintenance practices through on-the-job coaching and training.
6. Safety, Compliance and Continuous Improvement
· Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with site HSE requirements and OEM safety standards.
· Promote safe maintenance practices and adherence to risk management procedures.
· Participate in technical reviews and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving fleet reliability and maintenance performance.
· Support initiatives to reduce repeat failures, increase machine availability and optimize maintenance quality.
Performance Measures:
· Improvement in fleet reliability and technical performance (MTBF & MTTR, Mechanical availability, …)
· Reduction in repeat failures and unplanned breakdowns.
· Quality and effectiveness of technical troubleshooting support.
· Quality and timeliness of inspection and defect reports.
· Effective utilization of condition monitoring tools and predictive maintenance practices.
· Compliance with OEM maintenance standards and technical procedures.
· Positive customer feedback and support effectiveness.
· Safety compliance and contribution to zero harm objectives.
· Technical capability development of customer maintenance teams.
Experience and Education (Knowledge and Know-How)
· Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
· Minimum 4 to 5 years of experience in heavy mining equipment, maintenance and technical support.
· Extensive hands-on technical expertise on Komatsu mining equipment, preferably including HD785, PC2000, PC850, PC500, D275, GD825A and WA/WD600 equipment.
· Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, powertrain systems, electrical and electronic diagnostic systems.
· Proven experience in advanced fault diagnostics and troubleshooting within a mining environment.
· Experience working in OEM technical support, field service or embedded customer support environments.
· Experience in condition monitoring tools, oil analysis and predictive maintenance practices.
· Familiarity with KOMTRAX, EQP Care and OEM technical reporting systems.
· Previous experience in remote mining operations and FIFO environments is an advantage.
