Trainee Design Engineer – Electrical Substation Design
PowerMatix is looking for motivated fresh graduates to join its engineering team as Trainee Design Engineers.
The role will provide practical exposure to high-voltage substation design, protection and control systems, SCADA, earthing, cable engineering, and renewable-energy integration projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing electrical drawings, layouts, schematics, cable schedules, equipment schedules, BOQs, and technical documentation.
- Support primary and secondary design activities for GIS and AIS substations.
- Assist in earthing-system design, grounding layouts, conductor sizing, step-and-touch potential assessment, and related calculations.
- Support preparation of AC/DC schematics, battery-sizing calculations, multicore cable schedules, and control-panel documentation.
- Assist in SCADA and PLC-related engineering, including signal lists, I/O schedules, communication diagrams, and fibre-optic layouts.
- Support cable-sizing and cable-rating studies for HV and LV systems.
- Assist in terminal-loading and short-circuit force calculations for substation equipment and conductors.
- Participate in lightning-protection risk assessments and layout preparation.
- Review client specifications, equipment data sheets, and relevant engineering standards.
- Coordinate with senior engineers and CAD teams to update drawings and incorporate review comments.
- Maintain proper document control, revision records, and calculation files.
- Learn and apply relevant international standards, including IEC, IEEE, BS, ENA, and National Grid specifications.
Eligibility
- Fresh graduate in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- Basic understanding of power systems, substations, protection, control, or automation.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of ETAP, CDEGS, CYMCAP, TIA Portal, TwinCAT, PLCs, or SCADA systems will be an advantage.
- Good analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to understand technical instructions and communicate clearly with team members.
- Willingness to learn, accept technical feedback, and work in a structured engineering environment.
