The Vice President, Project Management Office (PMO) is responsible for leading and maturing enterprise-wide project management practices, governance, and delivery standards across the organization. This role provides strategic oversight of project execution while partnering closely with business unit project managers and functional leaders to ensure consistent, disciplined, and successful delivery of projects aligned to organizational priorities.

The VP, PMO establishes and drives standardized project management methodologies, governance frameworks, portfolio visibility, and continuous improvement initiatives across all projects and programs. This leader is accountable for developing organizational project management maturity through training, coaching, auditing, process optimization, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning.

Our VP, PMO role will report to the Chief Technology Officer across the central engineering function.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise PMO Leadership & Governance

  • Establish and lead the enterprise PMO strategy, operating model, governance framework, and project delivery standards.
  • Provide oversight and governance across all organizational projects and programs to ensure alignment with strategic objectives, priorities, budgets, and timelines.
  • Define and maintain project management methodologies, templates, stage-gate processes, reporting standards, and governance controls.
  • Ensure consistent project execution practices at the corporate level and across business units while maintaining the uncompromising commitment to safety and allowing flexibility for business unit-specific operational needs.
  • Chair or support project governance forums, steering committees, and executive portfolio reviews.

Project Management Maturity & Capability Development

  • Lead the ongoing maturation of project management capabilities across the organization.
  • Develop and implement a roadmap for improving project management discipline, delivery predictability, resource planning, and risk management.
  • Establish project management competency models, career development paths, and best practice standards for project managers.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Business Unit Partnership & Delivery Support

  • Partner closely with business unit project managers responsible for BU-specific initiatives and delivery execution.
  • Promote the ongoing alignment of cross-functional stakeholders (operations, engineering, safety, quality, commercial) to project objectives.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to business unit PMs to strengthen project planning, execution, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and reporting practices.
  • Facilitate cross-functional coordination and alignment across projects with shared dependencies or enterprise impact.
  • Support escalation management and resolution of project delivery challenges.

Process Improvement, Training & Continuous Learning

  • Continuously assess and improve project management processes, tools, governance, and delivery effectiveness.
  • Develop and lead project management training programs, workshops, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Conduct project and process audits to ensure adherence to established standards, methodologies, and governance requirements.
  • Analyze project performance metrics, lessons learned, and organizational trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Drive implementation of corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives based on audit findings and delivery outcomes.
  • Portfolio Visibility & Executive Reporting

    • Establish enterprise portfolio reporting, KPIs, dashboards, and executive-level project visibility.
    • Provide leadership with accurate and timely reporting on project health, risks, resource capacity, financial performance, and strategic alignment.
    • Support prioritization and investment decision-making through portfolio analysis and governance processes.
  • Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, project management, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
    • 12+ years of progressive project/program management leadership experience, including enterprise PMO leadership responsibilities.
    • Proven experience building or maturing PMO functions and enterprise project management capabilities.
    • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, governance frameworks, portfolio management, and experience with organizational change management practices, including ability to train others.
    • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and engaging senior executives and business leaders.
    • Experience implementing project management standards, training programs, governance audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Experience utilizing a variety of tools, techniques and resources to apply to key activities such as scoping, requirements gathering, prioritization and traceability, root cause analysis, risk identification, analysis and management, etc.
    • PMP certification or equivalent preferred.
    • Experience working with product development lifecycle processes and tools preferred.

    The standard compensation for this role is $214,000 – $320,950. Salary offers will be determined based on final candidate qualifications, experience, skillset, and other relevant factors.
