Vice President, Renewables Operations & Maintenance (O&M)
A leading independent power producer is seeking a Vice President of Renewables Operations & Maintenance (O&M) to establish, build, and lead the company's renewable O&M function. This individual will be responsible for developing the operational framework, processes, and team to support a growing portfolio of wind and solar assets.
This role will oversee the creation and scaling of a renewable O&M organization, including environmental, health and safety procedures, operational standards, maintenance strategies, and training programs. Site personnel will report directly into this position.
The VP will report to the Head of Asset Management and work closely with Development, Engineering & Construction, Asset Management, and Energy Management teams to ensure a seamless transition of projects from construction into long-term operations, while building a scalable platform to support continued growth.
Location: Strong preference for a New England-based office (with flexibility for remote arrangements)
Travel: ~25% to project sites and company offices
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead development and implementation of site environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures
- Build out the organizational structure, staffing plan, and operating model for renewable operations
- Oversee recruitment, training, and management of site personnel
- Develop and execute O&M strategies and outage planning for solar and wind assets
- Standardize fleet-wide operational and maintenance practices
- Leverage asset monitoring, performance analytics, and CMMS platforms
- Establish KPIs and reporting aligned with asset management objectives
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements (including NERC where applicable)
- Oversee root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts
- Support construction-to-operations transitions, warranty management, and capital improvement initiatives
- Partner cross-functionally with Asset Management, Energy Management, Finance, and Regulatory teams
- Represent the organization in stakeholder meetings, investor discussions, and site visits
Requirements:
- Deep understanding of power plant operations and O&M best practices
- Proven leadership experience managing geographically dispersed teams
- Strong analytical skills with experience using CMMS and performance monitoring tools
- Financial acumen with experience managing O&M budgets
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence
- Ability to pass background and credit checks
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in the power industry, with leadership responsibility in O&M (renewables strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated accountability for safety, compliance, operational performance, and contractor/OEM management
- Experience managing or leading power generation personnel
