Supervises: Wireline Operators, Assistant Operators, Field Technicians, Drivers, PCE Technicians, and third-party support crew
1. Position Purpose
The Wireline Supervisor is responsible for planning, preparing, supervising, and safely executing wireline operations for ECD Vision’s Well Intervention Department. The role covers cased-hole and open-hole wireline services, including PLT, CBL/VDL, Gamma Ray, CCL, Caliper, pressure-control operations, tool preparation, data acquisition support, field reporting, and client coordination.
The Wireline Supervisor acts as ECD Vision’s frontline representative at the wellsite and is accountable for safe execution, crew discipline, equipment readiness, job quality, client communication, and complete operational documentation.
2. Main ResponsibilitiesA. Job Planning & Preparation
The Wireline Supervisor shall:
- Review the client work program, well data, well status, pressure data, expected temperature, wellhead configuration, and operational objective before mobilization.
- Prepare the wireline job plan, tool string, equipment checklist, crew allocation, consumables list, and mobilization requirements.
- Confirm availability and readiness of wireline truck, winch, cable, acquisition system, panels, tools, PCE, lubricator, BOP, grease equipment, crossover/adaptors, pressure gauges, and safety equipment.
- Coordinate with ECD operations, procurement, logistics, HSE, QA/QC, and maintenance teams before each job.
- Attend pre-job meetings with the client, rigless team, production team, well services team, or drilling/workover team as required.
- Ensure all tools are inspected, tested, calibrated, and fit for the assigned job.
B. Field Execution
The Wireline Supervisor shall:
- Lead and supervise rig-up, pressure testing, tool string assembly, logging operations, pressure-control operation, rig-down, and post-job checks.
- Ensure all operations are performed according to the approved client program, ECD procedures, HSE requirements, and applicable oilfield standards.
- Supervise cased-hole services such as PLT, CBL/VDL, GR/CCL, caliper, memory gauges, production diagnostics, well integrity logging, and related services.
- Supervise open-hole support activities when assigned, including tool preparation, cable inspection, data-acquisition readiness, and safe field execution.
- Monitor job progress, well conditions, tool response, cable tension, depth control, acquisition quality, and operational risks.
- Stop the job immediately if unsafe conditions, equipment malfunction, pressure-control concerns, or client-program conflict is identified.
- Maintain clear communication with the client representative, company man, wellsite supervisor, and ECD management throughout the job.
C. HSE & Well Control Responsibility
The Wireline Supervisor shall:
- Take direct responsibility for safe execution of wireline activities at the wellsite.
- Conduct toolbox talks, pre-job safety meetings, hazard identification, and job safety analysis before operations.
- Ensure full compliance with PTW, JSA, HSE plan, SIMOPS controls, lifting plan, pressure-testing controls, and emergency response requirements.
- Verify that pressure-control equipment is suitable for the well conditions and that pressure tests are properly witnessed and recorded.
- Ensure H2S, fire, dropped-object, pressure, electrical, mechanical, lifting, driving, and well-control risks are managed.
- Ensure only qualified and authorized personnel handle restricted equipment, sources, or special tools where applicable.
- Exercise Stop Work Authority when conditions are unsafe or not aligned with the approved program.
D. Equipment, Tools & Maintenance
The Wireline Supervisor shall:
- Maintain full control of the wireline truck, winch unit, cable, acquisition system, panels, downhole tools, PCE, lubricators, BOP, grease equipment, and accessories.
- Ensure equipment inspections are completed before and after each job.
- Prepare equipment defect reports and coordinate repairs with the workshop/lab team.
- Maintain records for tool maintenance, calibration, pressure test certificates, inspection reports, cable condition, and operational readiness.
- Confirm tools are cleaned, serviced, oiled, stored, and preserved according to manufacturer recommendations.
- Support the Wireline Lab / Workshop team in troubleshooting tool failures and preparing tools for the next job.
E. Crew Supervision & Leadership
The Wireline Supervisor shall:
- Lead the wireline crew and assign duties clearly to each operator, assistant operator, technician, and driver.
- Train junior personnel in safe work practices, tool handling, rig-up/rig-down discipline, documentation, and client communication.
- Ensure attendance, discipline, PPE compliance, timekeeping, and professional behavior of the crew.
- Evaluate crew performance and recommend training, promotion, replacement, or corrective action when required.
- Maintain a professional ECD image at the client site.
F. Documentation & Reporting
The Wireline Supervisor shall prepare and submit:
- Daily field report.
- Pre-job checklist.
- Equipment readiness checklist.
- Pressure test record.
- Tool string sketch / tool configuration.
- Depth correlation and logging summary.
- Job ticket / service ticket.
- Client sign-off sheet.
- HSE toolbox talk record.
- Incident / near-miss report if applicable.
- Equipment failure report if applicable.
- Post-job report.
- End-of-job report with lessons learned.
- Consumables and materials usage report.
All reports shall be submitted to ECD management and client representatives as required.
3. Authority
The Wireline Supervisor has authority to:
- Stop unsafe work.
- Reject unfit tools, damaged equipment, or uncertified PCE.
- Refuse execution if the client program conflicts with safety or equipment limitations.
- Request additional manpower, tools, spares, vehicles, or HSE support.
- Sign field service tickets and job reports, subject to ECD authorization matrix.
- Escalate operational, commercial, or HSE issues to management immediately.
4. Required Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geology, or relevant technical discipline.
- Minimum 7–10 years oilfield wireline experience.
- Minimum 3–5 years in a supervisory wireline role.
- Strong experience in cased-hole wireline operations.
- Experience in pressure-control equipment and rigless well intervention.
- Good knowledge of wireline truck, winch system, cable, acquisition system, surface panels, downhole tools, PCE, BOP, lubricator, and wellhead interface.
- Strong HSE knowledge and ability to lead field crews.
- Good English communication skills; Arabic is an advantage for Iraq operations.
- Computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, reporting templates, and wireline acquisition/reporting systems.
5. Preferred Certifications
Preferred but may be mandatory depending on client requirement:
- IWCF Well Intervention Pressure Control Level 3 or Level 4.
- H2S Safety / H2S Awareness.
- First Aid.
- Fire Fighting.
- Defensive Driving.
- Permit to Work training.
- LOTO awareness.
- Lifting and rigging awareness.
- Radiation safety awareness, where applicable and only for approved personnel.
- Explosive safety awareness, where applicable and only for approved personnel.
- Client-specific oilfield induction.
6. Technical Experience Required
Candidate should have practical experience with:
- Cased-hole wireline operations.
- PLT / Production Logging Tools.
- CBL / VDL cement evaluation.
- Gamma Ray and CCL correlation.
- Caliper logging.
- Memory gauge operations.
- Pressure-control equipment.
- Wireline BOP and lubricator systems.
- Tool string assembly.
- Cable head, weak point, centralizers, sinker bars, and related accessories.
- Warrior / Sondex or similar acquisition systems.
- Field troubleshooting of tool, cable, panel, and acquisition issues.
- Job ticketing and client sign-off process.
7. Key Performance Indicators — KPIs
The Wireline Supervisor will be evaluated based on:
- Zero LTI / zero major HSE incident.

ECD Vision is seeking an experienced Wireline Supervisor to join its Well Intervention Department in Iraq.
The candidate will be responsible for supervising cased-hole and open-hole wireline operations, leading field crews, ensuring safe execution, maintaining wireline tools and pressure-control equipment, coordinating with clients, and preparing complete job documentation.
The ideal candidate must have strong experience in wireline field operations, pressure-control equipment, PLT, CBL/VDL, GR/CCL, caliper services, acquisition systems, tool preparation, HSE compliance, and client-facing job execution.
Minimum Experience: 7–10 years in wireline operations, including 3–5 years as supervisor.
