Role Overview
The CNC Machining Estimator plays a critical role in determining which opportunities TOMI pursues and how work is priced. This position requires strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, drawing interpretation skills, and the ability to translate complex engineering requirements into accurate manufacturing cost models.
You will review RFQs, analyze manufacturability, determine machining strategies, estimate cycle times, and prepare quotes for both prototype and production work.
This role works closely with the VP of Business Development, engineering, and shop leadership to ensure TOMI wins the right work at the right margins.
Responsibilities
— Review RFQ packages including drawings, models, specifications, and quality requirements
— Analyze part geometry, tolerances, GD&T, and materials to determine manufacturing approach
— Develop machining strategies and operation sequences for multi-axis CNC milling environments
— Estimate cycle times, setup time, tooling requirements, and manufacturing labor
— Evaluate fixturing strategies and potential production bottlenecks
— Estimate prototype and production machining costs
— Account for required outside processes (heat treat, coatings, plating, etc.) when applicable
— Generate quotes using Paperless Parts, Excel, and JobBOSS
— Collaborate with engineering and shop personnel to validate manufacturing assumptions
— Identify cost drivers and manufacturability considerations early in the quoting process
— Support internal discussions around pricing strategy and capacity planning
Qualifications
Required
— 5+ years of experience in CNC machining, manufacturing engineering, or machining estimation
— Strong understanding of precision CNC machining processes, particularly milling
— Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T
— Experience estimating tight-tolerance components with complex geometries
— Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail
— Ability to manage multiple RFQs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Preferred
— Experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing environments
— Familiarity with Paperless Parts, JobBOSS, or similar ERP/quoting systems
— Ability to review models using Mastercam, CATIA, or similar CAD/CAM tools
— Experience estimating both prototype and production machining
— Experience working within AS9100 quality environments

Santa Ana, California (on-site)
Compensation
$90,000 – $160,000 (depending on experience and performance).
This salary range reflects our current good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation may fall above or below this range and may be adjusted over time. Final pay will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, certifications, location, and overall business needs.
