Lead Manufacturing Equipment Maintenance Technician – 3rd Shift Jobs in Allentown, PA at Thermo Fisher Scientific
Pay: $32-$38/hr + Shift Differential + Annual Bonus + Merit Increase
Schedule: Full-Time | Third Shift (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
About the Role

Within our Clinical Trials Division (CTD), you’ll support pharmaceutical and biotech customers by operating, troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing manufacturing and packaging equipment in a cGMP-regulated environment.
As a Senior Technical Operator, you’ll serve as a technical expert for production equipment, support equipment reliability and production efficiency, mentor team members, collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis on high-speed manufacturing, packaging, and support equipment.
- Complete preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
- Lead equipment setups and changeovers while minimizing downtime.
- Repair and maintain mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automated systems.
- Partner with Engineering to implement process improvements that enhance safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and cGMP-compliant documentation.
- Serve as the SME for assigned equipment and support capital projects and validation activities.
- Train and mentor Technical Operators and junior staff.
- Participate in Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support investigations, CAPAs, risk assessments, and safety initiatives.
Environment
- Manufacturing, production, and cleanroom environment.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. and perform repetitive movements; ability to lift 40 lbs. without assistance.
- Extended standing, walking, and production floor work.
- Exposure to cold rooms/freezers (-22°F/-6°C), fluctuating temperatures, noise, and production chemicals.
- Adherence to cGMP/GMP requirements and safety standards.
- PPE required, including safety glasses, gloves, gowning, lab coats, and hearing protection.
- Cleanroom restrictions may apply, including limitations on jewelry, makeup, perfume, exposed piercings, and similar items.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 4+ years of manufacturing, operations, or production experience.
- 3+ years in a cGMP-regulated facility.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
Preferred
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related field.
- Training or certifications in Maintenance Technology, PLC Programming, Lean, or Six Sigma.
- Pharmaceutical or medical device manufacturing experience.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing automated manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to use precision measuring devices and interpret schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Knowledge of PLC-based control systems.
- Strong technical writing, documentation, problem-solving, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
