The client is an international agri-food business operating as part of a larger global group. It specialises in the production and processing of forage and agricultural products, supplying international markets. The business combines large-scale farming operations with industrial processing capabilities and is focused on operational efficiency, product quality, and the adoption of modern agricultural and processing technologies.

Opportunity:

This role leads a dehydration and baling plant within a highly variable agricultural environment. It is responsible for ensuring stable, efficient, and reliable operations aligned with production, quality, and cost targets. The role has a strong focus on asset reliability, maintenance planning, and minimising unplanned downtime.

The Plant Manager reports to Farm Management and oversees plant supervisors. The position is critical in aligning field production, industrial processing, and logistics to maintain continuity of supply and operational performance.

This is a hands-on operational role requiring strong ownership, execution discipline, and the ability to operate effectively in a rural, high-demand setting. Performance will be measured against key operational metrics including cost per ton, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), unplanned downtime, and production delivery versus plan.

Responsibilities:

Operational Performance & Planning

  • Develop and execute production plans based on raw material availability and business targets
  • Ensure consistent throughput and remove operational bottlenecks
  • Deliver production volumes in line with plan

Financial Management & Cost Control

  • Own plant performance against budget
  • Control cost per ton produced and identify deviations
  • Implement corrective actions to improve efficiency

Process Optimisation & OEE

  • Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness across availability, performance, and quality
  • Reduce waste in energy, materials, and operational time
  • Lead structured continuous improvement initiatives

People Management

  • Lead and develop plant teams with clear accountability
  • Build capability across supervisors and operators
  • Drive performance management and succession planning

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Ensure compliance with HSE standards and regulations
  • Promote a safe working culture and minimise operational risk
  • Maintain focus on zero incident performance

Maintenance & Asset Reliability

  • Implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies
  • Plan and manage structured plant downtime
  • Coordinate with maintenance and workshop teams
  • Maximise equipment reliability and lifecycle performance

Integration with Agricultural & Supply Chain Operations

  • Coordinate with farming teams on harvesting cycles
  • Align plant operations with logistics and export requirements
  • Ensure continuity between field operations, processing, and delivery

Candidate Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in industrial operations
  • At least 5 years in a plant leadership or equivalent role
  • Background in agri-food, industrial processing, or related sectors
  • Strong experience in maintenance strategy and asset management
  • Proven exposure to cost control and operational performance metrics (OEE, P&L)
  • Experience managing teams in demanding operational environments
  • Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Agricultural Engineering or related field
  • Experience with thermal processing or industrial drying systems is preferred
  • Familiarity with CMMS and structured maintenance systems
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 standards
  • Fluent English
