Job Summary
Senior Groundwater Modeller at Onterris, based in Oakville, Guelph, and Calgary offices. Compensation range: $134,000 to $184,000
, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.
Responsibilities
- Develop and apply groundwater flow and transport models to support decision-making for a wide range of projects.
- Provide ownership, oversight, review, and technical direction of modelling projects and deliverables, collaborating closely with junior and intermediate staff, internal collaborators, and clients.
- Lead discussions with clients and prepare scopes of work including pricing and staffing.
- Act as project manager for multiple routine projects or fewer complex projects.
- Develop and execute conceptual model-driven work plans that balance the application of innovative modelling tools and approaches with the scale and scope of the problem.
- Collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team focused on being trusted advisors to our clients.
- Manage multiple priorities, scope changes and support multiple project managers.
- Provide peer review and technical accountability of project results and reports.
- Liaise with clients and stakeholders within various sectors.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Engineering, Earth Sciences or related discipline.
- 15 years’ experience in a similar role within a consulting environment with experience in hydrogeology and numerical methods.
- Professional registration with provincial self‑regulating organizations (e.g., APEGA).
- Demonstrated experience in the application of numerical modelling tools and approaches, including remedial action plans, subwatershed studies, environmental assessments, wellhead protection studies, and uncertainty analysis to support risk assessment.
- Experience with FEFLOW, MODFLOW, MIKESHE, ATRANS, Hydrus, or similar software.
- Knowledge in specialized technical areas such as geostatistics, reactive transport modelling, multi‑phase modelling, or coupled surface water‑groundwater flow and transport modelling.
- Skilled in data analysis using Database/GIS/Visualization tools to support conceptual model development and numerical modelling results analyses.
- Experience in data management and analysis, especially with Python or SQL.
- Strong business development acumen and desire to develop and expand client opportunities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative attitude.
- Strong commitment to mentorship and knowledge transfer.
- Ability to work within a multi‑disciplinary team environment.
- Strong experience writing technical memos and giving presentations in a consulting environment.
- Valid class G driver’s license with no restrictions is an asset.
