Job Summary

The Technical Director is responsible for leading and overseeing all technical, architectural, engineering, and design management functions across major construction projects. The role ensures the successful coordination, development, review, and delivery of all design and technical aspects throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and design development through construction support and project handover.

The Technical Director will serve as the primary technical authority, managing multidisciplinary design teams, consultants, architects, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure design excellence, technical compliance, constructability, value engineering, and alignment with project objectives, budgets, and schedules.

This role requires extensive experience in delivering large-scale, complex developments including mega projects, mixed-use developments, hospitality, commercial towers, infrastructure, and landmark projects.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Design Leadership

  • Lead the overall technical and design management strategy for assigned projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to architectural, engineering, BIM, and design management teams.
  • Ensure project designs meet client expectations, contractual obligations, company objectives, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive innovation, sustainability, efficiency, and best engineering practices throughout project delivery.

Design Management & Coordination

  • Oversee all design stages including concept, schematic, detailed design, IFC, and construction documentation.
  • Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams including Architecture, Structural, Civil, MEP, Infrastructure, Landscape, and Specialist Systems.
  • Review and approve design submissions, technical reports, specifications, calculations, and shop drawing strategies.
  • Ensure proper integration and coordination among all design disciplines.
  • Lead design review workshops and technical coordination meetings.

Consultant & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage relationships with clients, consultants, developers, authorities, and key project stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary technical interface between project teams and external consultants.
  • Lead technical discussions, design presentations, and executive-level project reviews.
  • Ensure timely resolution of technical issues and design-related challenges.

Technical Review & Compliance

  • Ensure all designs comply with project requirements, local authority regulations, international codes, and industry standards.
  • Review design risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Lead constructability reviews and technical due diligence processes.
  • Oversee technical approvals and authority submissions.

Value Engineering & Innovation

  • Lead value engineering initiatives to optimize project cost, quality, functionality, and constructability.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and design enhancement.
  • Evaluate alternative materials, systems, and methodologies to improve project outcomes.

Construction Support

  • Provide technical support during procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover stages.
  • Review technical queries, RFIs, material submittals, and engineering changes.
  • Support project teams in resolving complex design and construction challenges.
  • Ensure design intent is maintained throughout execution.

Team Development & Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop technical, engineering, architectural, and design management teams.
  • Establish departmental objectives, KPIs, and performance standards.
  • Foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the technical department.
  • Support recruitment and development of key technical personnel.

Strategic Planning

  • Support executive management in project planning and technical decision-making.
  • Participate in bid reviews, tender evaluations, technical proposals, and business development initiatives.
  • Contribute to company-wide technical standards, procedures, and best practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 15–20 years of experience in design management, engineering management, or technical leadership roles within major construction and development projects.
  • Proven experience delivering mega projects, mixed-use developments, commercial towers, hospitality projects, and large-scale urban developments.
  • Strong background in architecture, multidisciplinary design coordination, and project delivery.
  • Extensive knowledge of international design standards, building codes, and authority requirements.
  • Experience working with leading consultants, developers, and government entities.
