We are looking for a Technical Director to lead our Chemistry Business Unit, specialising in chromatography and mass spectrometry. In this role, you will combine people leadership, high‑level scientific expertise and strategic input to drive the performance, quality and development of our chemistry activities within the laboratory.
About the role
Reporting to General Management, you will manage a multidisciplinary team and oversee complex analytical projects for our key clients. You will ensure the scientific robustness of our work, the reliability of the results delivered, and the continuous improvement of methods, tools and processes within your perimeter.
Key responsibilities :
Team leadership & people development
- Lead, manage and motivate the teams within your scope, fostering a collaborative and high‑performance culture.
- Organise and prioritise departmental activities, ensuring balanced workload and service continuity.
- Identify recruitment needs and training plans, and propose them to General Management.
- Conduct annual performance reviews and support the development of employees’ skills and careers.
- Coach and align managers with the objectives and strategy defined by General Management.
Scientific & technical leadership
- Act as the main technical reference for sample preparation techniques (liquid–liquid extraction, SPE, SPME, ASE, etc.).
- Oversee and validate chromatographic analyses (GC, LC) and couplings with mass spectrometry, including high‑resolution MS.
- Lead complex technical projects, from client interaction and test planning to interpretation of results and resolution of issues.
- Ensure the technical quality, reliability and regulatory compliance of all services delivered.
- Drive the development, optimisation and implementation of new analytical methods and strategies.
Client relations & external representation
- Interact directly with clients for technical discussions, study design, and presentation of results.
- Support the Sales team in pre‑sales activities by promoting laboratory solutions and capabilities.
- Draft study plans and study reports; sign analytical results and communicate them to clients in line with internal procedures.
- Represent the company in external bodies (AFNOR/ISO committees, seminars, scientific conferences) and act as a recognised expert in your field.
- When applicable, act as Test Facility Manager under GLP (by delegation).
Strategy, quality & continuous improvement
- Actively contribute to Management and Strategic Committees and Management Reviews.
- Promote a strong quality, safety and technical culture across the laboratory and encourage cross‑department collaboration.
- Drive organisational and methodological improvements, in close collaboration with the QSE department.
- Participate in customer and third‑party audits and oversee responses to non‑conformities.
- Supervise or lead the management of deviations, non‑conformities, customer complaints, waivers and out‑of‑specification results.
- Ensure effective control and follow‑up of subcontracted analytical work and key suppliers.
- Draft, review and approve documentation related to your areas of expertise, and act as an internal and/or external trainer and auditor when required.
Required profile
- Master’s degree (MSc / Engineering degree, Bac+5 minimum) with at least 5 years of management experience,
- 10 years’ experience in an analytical laboratory or related environment.
- Solid expertise in sample preparation techniques (liquid–liquid extraction, SPE, SPME, ASE, etc.).
- Proven mastery of chromatographic techniques (GC, LC) and mass spectrometry, including HRMS.
- Confirmed experience in team management, project leadership and client interaction in a regulated environment.
