Leadership Opportunity – Aviation Maintenance
A rapidly growing FAA Part 145 Repair Station is seeking an experienced aviation maintenance leader to oversee its nationwide Aircraft on Ground (AOG) Mobile Service Unit (MSU) network. This opportunity is ideal for a results-driven leader with a strong background in mobile maintenance operations, FAA regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
The Director of Mobile Service Units will provide strategic and operational leadership for a nationwide field maintenance organization, ensuring rapid response to AOG events while delivering exceptional customer service, regulatory compliance, and financial performance.
Job Summary
The Director of Mobile Service Units (MSU) is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations, strategic growth, and overall performance of a nationwide AOG mobile maintenance network operating under FAA Part 145 regulations.
This role oversees 24/7 mobile maintenance operations, dispatch coordination, workforce planning, logistics, customer satisfaction, and financial performance while driving continuous improvement across all mobile service operations.
Working closely with senior leadership, the Director will develop scalable processes, strengthen operational capabilities, and support long-term organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Direct all 24/7 AOG Mobile Service Unit operations, ensuring rapid response and efficient aircraft return-to-service.
- Lead nationwide field maintenance teams, dispatch operations, and regional support resources.
- Establish operational performance metrics, including response time, dispatch efficiency, return-to-service performance, and customer satisfaction.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.
Strategic Planning
- Develop and execute strategic initiatives to expand the organization’s mobile maintenance capabilities.
- Evaluate new market opportunities, operating locations, and customer service offerings.
- Support capital planning for mobile assets, specialized tooling, equipment, and technology.
- Collaborate with executive leadership on long-term growth strategies.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with FAA Part 145 regulations and all applicable aviation standards.
- Maintain compliance with company quality systems and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.
- Lead audit preparation and corrective action initiatives.
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout all mobile operations.
Financial Management
- Manage the Mobile Service Unit operating budget and departmental financial performance.
- Monitor operating expenses, labor utilization, and resource allocation.
- Support pricing strategies for AOG events and customer service agreements.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability through operational efficiencies.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, coach, and develop managers, dispatch personnel, team leads, and mobile technicians.
- Drive workforce planning to ensure nationwide operational coverage.
- Support recruiting, onboarding, technical training, and succession planning.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous professional development.
Customer Relations
- Serve as the senior operational contact during critical AOG events.
- Build strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Support business development efforts, customer presentations, and contract negotiations.
- Assist in developing service level agreements (SLAs) and operational performance standards.
Technology & Process Improvement
- Implement technologies that improve dispatch visibility, mobile reporting, and operational performance.
- Utilize maintenance data and predictive analytics to improve fleet reliability.
- Standardize processes across all mobile service operations.
Other Duties

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly supervises Mobile Service Unit employees
Work Environment
- In office aviation maintenance environment.
- Frequent interaction with aircraft maintenance operations.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate required.
- Minimum of 10 years of aviation maintenance experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience within an FAA Part 145 Repair Station.
- Demonstrated experience managing AOG maintenance operations or nationwide field service organizations.
- Strong knowledge of FAA regulations and aviation maintenance compliance.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Ability to travel as business needs require.
